While many of us call this great city home, others see it as a wonderful and exciting new destination to discover! Meet Marianne and Joachim, who may not be native New Yorkers but certainly have the style and where with all to hold their own in the Big Apple {just check out the perfect form Marianne has below while hailing a cab}! Shannen Norman was there every step of the way to capture their NYC destination wedding!
Marianne and Joachim both met in the third grade in Norway and remained friends through the years. After Joachim left for school in Colorado and Marianne moved to Canada to study, the two returned home to Norway and started dating in secret! However, Marianne had just accepted a job in the UK so they were forced to shuttled back and forth between the two countries. {Are you able to keep up with this}?
Joachim who had been on a "guys trip" in the US came home and was acting very strange according to Marianne. Turns out, he had taken the weekend to purchase a ring, and as they sat on their balcony that starry evening, he asked her to marry him! Knowing that theirs would be a "destination wedding" for many of their friends regardless of the location, the two settled on New York as the venue!
Marianne wanted a beautiful and classic look for her wedding...and it shows in her simply stunning venue and dress! She wore a Jim Hjelm Blush {#1105} wedding dress, a strapless tulle ball gown with a simple black sash {it doesn't have to be all white ladies}! The modern, yet classic gown was brought to life with black satin Badgley Mischka Randall shoes {later swapped for wedged Tom's to dance the night away}, as well as a chapel length, single tier veil from Priscilla of Boston.
Marianne gave her ladies free reign over their dresses, allowing any color and shape they wanted! Clare's dress was a gold sequin dress from BCBG and Sarah wore a royal blue lace v-neck dress she bought from a boutique in Amsterdam!
These clever groomsmen, wearing Ralph Lauren tuxes and Bulgari cufflinks to match Joachim, pulled a fast one on Marianne when they forgot their pocket squares. Instead of stressing her out about the mishap, they fashioned their own out of notepad paper from the hotel and she didn't even notice until they pointed it out at the reception! {Clever gents... fooled us as well}!
"The River Cafe was a dream venue for us. We've had dinner there previously and LOVE the food; and the setting is spectacular!" said Marianne. "We had our cocktail hour on the terrace overlooking the Brooklyn Bride and the Manhattan skyline, and the terrace, gardens and our reception room were filled with plants and greenery. We kept table setting simple and elegant by having calligraphied place cards and classic white centerpieces."
Not sure what we love more...the gorgeous detailing to the back of the gown or the breathtaking view from the balcony from The River Cafe!

Beautiful photos! River Cafe! so nice this venue..
ReplyDeleteWhat fantastic New York photos, the bride and groom look great. I also think it was terrific she let her bridesmaids choose their own gowns. This is probably why they look so flattering.
