Good morning! Before you start another busy day, we would love you to meet Kristin Reimer and Steven Fontas of Photomuse, an award winning, fine art, documentary style wedding and portrait company and Merci New York's proud sponsor. While we are very lucky to know this talented pair very well {psst, see our last collaboration here}, we thought you would love to learn more about Photomuse and take a peak at their sexy, fun and exciting work. Having worked with Kristin and Steve, we know how passionate they are - and we love the fresh energy the couple brings to wedding photography. We're excited to share it with you! Enjoy...
Share your favorite NYC experience with us... We have so many favorite NYC experiences, but it seems like all of our experiences seem to center around sharing this little island with such a diverse group of people who all feel at home to live life to the fullest. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about... from a man from another generation catcalling a woman, to the many colorful conversations people have on the subways, to (most importantly) the fun times two playful photographers (that's us!) have with their brides and grooms creating a stir on the streets of NYC!
What inspired you to develop your brand? What was missing in the market that Photomuse fulfills?Steven and I are both from a classic generation of photography that is gimmick free. My school motto (Pratt Institute) is "Be true to your work and your work will be true to you" and I live behind this motto. I know that if I work from my heart's passion and I stay true to the ideals and creativity that come within myself, that my confidence from within will keep my work strong and vibrant. I will actively seek out new challenges and find ways to push my work creatively because it is what I enjoy and believe in, not because of financial motivations.
To that end, I have always been a fan of the Hollywood Silver Screen era. Romantic, sexy, glamorous, playful, decadent. Men and women still retained an aura of intrigue and mystery. So being true to myself means bringing those qualities into the work Photomuse does.Steven and I were also both painters before becoming photographers. I have a fine art background, Steven is a former NYC graffiti artist. We grew up seeing the world in a colorful and playful way and our different backgrounds compliment each other so well when shooting together.
Photomuse was inspired by the love of classic photography that never goes out of style. We add to that a passion for playful discovery and techniques, inspiration that is drawn from a rich history of art. Photography that is about capturing fleeting moments in time that will stand up to the test of time and become part of history.
When did you decide to begin Photomuse? What do you like most about it? Where do you draw everyday inspiration from?In 2012, Photomuse will officially be 10 years old! Yes, we are planning a party! Prior the creation of Photomuse, I began shooting weddings part time in 1991, while I was working for a well-known photojournalist named Elliott Erwitt. Steven joined me in 2008. I fell in love with weddings because it is always a happy day. How can you go wrong? A couple beginning their life together, love surrounding them and it's always a celebration! Wedding photographs from the 1800's still exist today. How exciting is it to be part of something that will span time? I love that our couples are so open with their emotions. We have their trust 100% to capture this time and to show them so candidly.
Our list of source of inspiration is endless. We look at magazines, we remark to each other when we see couples on the streets, we find inspiration from locations we pass by on a regular basis... We draw inspiration from each other and we draw it from couples we are working with. Life is a constant collaboration and opportunity for creativity.
Why should we tell readers to book Photomuse as their wedding photographer? In short, Photomuse has a vision that we stand behind. We are clear and articulate in our work. We are driven and passionate about what we do and we have the skills and maturity to handle whatever comes our way on the wedding day. We are fearless and compassionate. Our couples will have a memorable time with us. We strive to create photographs that are beautiful images on their own...and it just so happens that the couple is in them too! As much as we have a style to present to our couples, we listen to them too. We know what it takes to make our couples happy and we are indeed New Yorkers...and just like NYC taxi drivers, simply tell us where you want to go and we will take you there!
We already know how fabulous you are, but we want to brag about you some more! Please use this space to chat with us about anything we have not asked you about!I was also a professional belly dancer for 15 years. I offer "bachelorette belly dance parties" in addition to photography services. Steven and I do quite a bit of personal photo projects as well, mostly in the realm of documentary work. We enjoy telling stories about our world and we try to elicit change through photography. We are both huge animal lovers, we have 2 rescue dogs, we love camping, chocolate fondue and marshmallows. Yes, we are in love too. Yes...with each other!
Where did your company begin? Where is it located now? Where can we learn more about you?I began shooting weddings in NYC, I officially created Photomuse in New Jersey and we are now located in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. You can visit our website here, check our blog there and even like our Facebook page!

ReplyDeleteJesus these photographs are awesome! Usually wedding photography can be such a drag. The particular approach to these photographs is really creative and really captures what we think of when "romance" pops into our heads.
ReplyDeleteI hired Photomuse for my wedding and they surpassed my expectations. My wedding album has gotten countless compliments and I loved each image they captured. In the year since my wedding, Kristin and Steven have become friends and my husband and I can't wait to work with them again.

ReplyDeleteKristin and Steven are AMAZING!! They truly captured every wonderful moment of our wedding day. Not only did they take incredible pictures, they were able to capture so many emotions in each shot. Photomuse is the best!
ReplyDeleteThese go above and beyond what you normally see from wedding photographs. So great to see real interaction with others and the environments instead of forced/stale portraits. Great work!
ReplyDeleteI can't say enough how much Kristin and I have enjoyed working with Merci. Thanks for this fantastic post! We look forward to having some sexy fun working with the fabulous readers of Merci New York's blog.
ReplyDeleteThese photos are so much more than 'wedding photography' as we think of it. I especially enjoyed being reminded that 'the wedding photo' is a part of history and that one day these images will serve as cultural archives to inform future observers of our traditions, dress, behaviors, and so forth. What a treasure trove!
