DIY Modern Mokara Orchid Arrangement with Ovando, Resident Floral Experts

Today's post comes compliments of Ovando, one of our favorite floral and event production companies located in the West Village and Upper East Side of Manhattan. We have long-loved Ovando's signature style at Merci, so we are always thrilled to have them weigh in regularly as our Resident Floral Experts. Today, Ovando switches things up a bit, sharing how to create one of their signature arrangements with stunning Mokara orchids...

Spring is in the air…or, rather, it will be soon enough and we simply can’t wait! We’re certain that Merci readers share our enthusiasm and for all things Spring and sprightly and so we figured that an extra special treat was in order…a little DIY fun with Ovando’s Mokara Mon Amour arrangement!

The signature piece specifically showcases the sculptural style that is so near and dear to our hearts, and so too does the signature vision vase enable us to showcase the natural sophistication of the flowers themselves.

So, without further ado, gather your materials!

INGREDIENTS

6 bunches of steel grass

10 stems of orange Mokara orchids

10 x 2 x 15 glass vase

3 anthuriums

2 airplants

floral wire {bind wire}

1. Separate your steel grass into 2 equally thick bunches.

2. Feed the first bunch down into your vase, working along the right side of the vase. Repeat with the 2nd bunch on the left side of vase, working to form a teardrop shaped loop. Use bind wire to attach the two steal grass bunches together at the point of intersection, just at the lip of the vase. The ends of both bunches extend on in an upward angle to form a “V” shape in mid-air.

3. Make a bouquet with your Mokara orchids. Trim your stems and adhere with bind wire.

4. Gently poke the stems of your Mokara bouquet into the top end of the your {left-side} steel grass loop. Adhere using bind wire.

5. Trim your anthuriums and poke the stems into the front end of the {right-side} steel grass bunch. The first anthurium should be positioned near the lip of your vase and you can work upwards from there with the remaining two anthuriums. Make certain that the stems are tucked far down enough into your vase so that your anthuriums can drink.

6. Tie your two airplants together w bind wire, then adhere airplants to the grass loop.

And now? Well, it seems there’s nothing left to do but for you to enjoy!

And certainly that’s not such a bad thing…
