Chic Vendor Spotlight: Blade Floral and Event Design

Photobucket
We're not sure if we've mentioned it, but here at Merci we're suckers for creativity... So when we were given the chance to chat with the talented mind behind New York City based floral and event design company Blade we were {to put it mildly} wildly excited.
From capturing the beauty in the smallest of details to composing an overarching design vision that is both cohesive and inventive, Anne Kilcullen's work seeps skill and passion. Her airy designs are not only well thought out, but refreshingly matched by her down to earth nature {a godsend for the scatter-minded bride}.
We are thrilled to feature Anne Kilcullen's Blade in Merci's Chic Vendor Spotlight Series. Enjoy!

Merci: What inspired you to plant the Blade seed? How has the business "blossomed"?
Anne: Blade was created in 2007 in NYC born out of my love and passion for the natural beauty of flowers and design. Combining these passions I ventured out on my own to create a company where I could work closely with my clients and help them bring their vision to reality. I wanted to have a boutique, hands on feeling for my clients while using my knowledge and experience from my many years working with larger floral design companies.

Merci: What's behind Blade's exquisitely composed design aesthetic?
Anne: I'm inspired by everything around me and love to combine unexpected colors and textures. Something as simple as a finger painting by my 2 year old son inspires me to create a lush jewel toned arrangement using deep orange and plum tones. A fabulous geometric patterned Marimekko fabric inspires me to design a more architectural and minimal design in a really fabulous container.

Merci: We sort of love all-things-wedding at Merci. We're sure you design many kinds of events, but what do you love most about working on weddings?
Anne: I work on all types of events but working with a couple on their wedding decor is by far my favorite. From coordinating the smallest detail to ensuring that the entire look and feel of the wedding is a true reflection of the couple is so important to me. I encourage couples to really think about how they want to make their wedding day uniquely their own and how they want to tell their story and engage their guests in the celebration.

Merci: What's your role in a couple's "big day"?
Anne: We can help clients with all aspects of the decor and design. This includes everything from the flowers, candles and linens to lighting, props, furniture rental. All of these elements add to the look and feel of the event and we can assist clients with every detail. We work to create a cohesive "story" thoughtfully woven throughout the entire day.

Merci: We're sad to have to wrap things up... Any final thoughts to share with us?
Anne: In the end, I truly love what I do. I feel blessed to be even a small part of such a special day for so many couples.
