As you probably noticed from last Friday's "Behind the Scenes" post, Merci New York had a lot of fun producing and styling the advertorial and look book for our clients, Jupiter Jewelry.
Editorial production and styling is one of our most popular services at Merci. While we l.o.v.e. to privately style brides, working with brands to conceptualize and create an editorial campaign that epitomizes their identity is one of our MAJOR strong suites.
And we don't just style, we tackle it all from soup to nuts... From pitching creative concepts, scouting locations, hiring a fabulous team of photographers, hair and make-up artist, floral designer, retouchers {and of course, our stylists}, we manage and produce it all so companies can sit back and enjoy watching a vision come to life.

Behind the Scenes of the Jupiter Jewelry Editorial Campaign | Merci Portfolio

One of my favorite things about having a styling company is that no two days are ever the same. On Monday I may be styling a private client. On Tuesday I may be propping a small event. And on Wednesday, I might be producing an editorial campaign for a designer - which is exactly what this post is all about.
At the tail-end of last year, Merci New York was commissioned to artistically direct and style an editorial campaign for one of our favorite clients, Jupiter Jewelry. The family-owned fine jewelry company had been in business for generations, but craved a fresh, chic and stylish look for their new editorial campaign. They had already purchased a one page ad piece opposite the masthead in Grace Ormonde Wedding Style Magazine, but they hired Merci New York to turn that blank page into something that spoke to the brand's style and heritage. We hit the ground running.
Now, you can cheat. You can pull up your glossy new issue of Grace Ormonde and find our beautiful finished work. In fact, you can also look at the gorgeous new issue of Utterly Engaged as well... {The final editorial not only made the cover, but it was a beautiful multi-page story in the fashion well of the magazine}. But if you're interested in the styling and production process - and I hope you are - I thought it would be fun to first show the behind the scenes of this beautiful shoot, expertly captured our photographer, Kat Harris of Mike Colon Photographers. Take a peek!
A great editorial is much more than snapping a few beautiful photos. It's the quest to create an image that is aesthetically pleasing, but striking, memorable and strong. It takes a talented team, a fabulous location, perfectly planned logistics, and many, many looks to nail just one final, glossy photo.
Merci New York wanted to show the "Old Meets New" appeal of Jupiter Jewelry, a family-owned company steeped in tradition, but also bursting at the seams with glamorous style. To nail this juxtaposition, we rented The Metropolitan Building, a Long Island City landmark location known for its gorgeous architecture, varied rooms and abundant props. We tackled over ten looks, from bridal to evening and everything in between...

This past fall, I was beyond honored when our friends at Martha Stewart Weddings showcased Merci New York as a featured expert in their Fall Fashion Issue. To be very honest, honored isn't even the word. I was certifiably Over the Moon...
While I adore writing the blog each day, our fashion styling house is the " business end" of Merci. It's a place where my background in the fashion industry and my love for weddings collide and create wonderful things for brides and brands. It was so lovely to have our favorite fashion finds of the season highlighted in Martha Stewart Weddings, who - needless to say - is a MAJOR authority on all-things-weddings.
Given my gratitude for the Fall feature {here}, you can imagine how happy I was to contribute some tips and tricks for a great article titled "Savvy Spending Secrets" in MSW's Winter Issue. I shared ways to save on wedding day fashion, but a slew of amazing professionals talked about venues, flowers, food and many other aspects of the big day. Here's just a peek...

The Wedding Party New York... And a Ticket Giveaway

There are so many wedding events in New York City, a bride can easily get overwhelmed. However, if there's one show she should certainly add to her calendar it's The Wedding Party.
Co-hosted by the lovely Claudia Hanlin of The Wedding Library and our friends at Martha Stewart Weddings, The Wedding Party brings the who's-who of wedding fashion, style and substance under one roof for one day of uber-luxe wedding planning.
At the event, brides will rub shoulders with "Say Yes to the Dress" star Randy Fenoli, designer Amsale Aberra, Martha Stewart Weddings' Darcy Miller, caterer to the Stars Peter Callahan, and design guru Matthew Robbins, just to name a few. It's a must-see, ladies. And we're excited to share that Merci New York will be on board in a much bigger way than ever before...
Since I had such a pleasure covering the show in 2010, and exhibiting in 2011, I'm thrilled to announce that Merci New York will be the show's Style Editor for 2012. I'll be on site absorbing all the gorgeous goodness, chatting with vendors, meeting with brides... and most importantly, bringing it all back to you with extensive details on the hottest artists, vendors and designers in NYC bridal.

Beautiful decor a plenty. The above pink and black palette came courtesy of the event stylists at The Wedding Library at last year's affair, and they'll be back for 2012, along with Matthew Robbins Design and a slew of New York's top creatives - a.k.a. just the folks you'll want by your side to dream up a magical and gorgeous wedding.
Entertainment that looks as good as it sounds. One of my favorite musical groups for weddings is the wonderfully romantic Carte Blanche of Elan Artists. Ah if I only knew of them for my own wedding... The vintage-styled group delivers a mix of classic American 20's and 30's jazz standards, French, and Latin American music that will be sure to swoon your guests through cocktails and beyond. Carte Blanche will perform at The Wedding Party as part of a wonderful Elan Artists' band showcase. There will certainly be a musical group for everyone.
Unsurpassed style and decadently-designed treats. I'm beyond excited to see Kleinfeld Bridal's exclusive bridal runway show at The Wedding Party, not to mention their fashion displays, which are always beyond stunning. In addition to showcasing many of the hottest gowns of the season, Kleinfeld will also be raffling off a bridal gown worth $3,000 and a Kleinfeld Men suit or tuxedo valued at $2,000. Pretty sweet, no?
And speaking of sweet, leading cake designers such as Ron Ben-Israel and Sylvia Weinstock will be sharing their decadently designed custom cakes at The Wedding Party, as will Dawn from One Girl Cookies, who never fails to disappoint with a stunning display of sweets and treats perfect for dessert bars, favors and more.

They're a perfect little jewel of a shoe, in a perfect little shade of blush that can be worn again and again for any number of glamorous occasions.

As many of you know, Christina joins Merci the first {non-holiday!} Monday of every month to report on beautiful destination wedding locations you will l.o.v.e. Today, Christina didn't need to wander too far from NYC. The beautiful Winvian is a david beahm destiantions property located only a stone's throw away from Manhattan, making it the perfect locale for sweet city escapes and beautiful weddings, any time of the year. Take it away, Christina!
Bonjour Merci! Thanks so much for having me back again and Bonne Année to you and every one of your readers! I have a hunch that many of Merci’s newest followers this month were the recipient of a little ring box (blue and otherwise) over the holiday season and newly engaged couples are soon going to be venturing out in the snow and cold to begin the hunt for the elusive “perfect venue.” With all of the holiday traveling most of us have been doing over the past month, I thought I would take January’s blog post to share one of my very favorite nearby david beahm destinations. For those of us New Yorkers, it’s blessedly located only a two-hour, hop, skip, or car-ride away from the Metropolitan area in Litchfield, Connecticut. Messieurs et Mademoiselles please allow me to introduce to you to the jewel that is Winvian!For the Merci regulars, by now you’ve noticed that I have more than a little love for intimate, thoughtfully designed and impeccably managed properties. Winvian is all of that, and then some. From the imagination of the Smith progeny was borne the fanciful and quirky property: a New England get-away nestled within 113 acres that was once family farmland. The Smith family selected fifteen master architects to each create their “dream” escape on a portion of the grounds. What resulted is a mosaic of style and design that is united by intuitive, lavish amenities, spectacular cuisine and a level of service expected from a world-class Relais & Châteaux property. The family’s historic Seth Bird House became the hotel reception, communal area, restaurants, and a guest suite, and the existing Gordon Brown House was refurbished as an event space.However, when I look at the property through my patented, professional “special event goggles” what I absolutely love about it and what makes it so unique is that there are a myriad of options for how and where your guests can experience your wedding – all of which give the distinct feeling that you are hosting your celebration on a fantastic New England family compound.
In the summer, I find the bucolic nature of the Winvian Meadow idyllic for the ceremony of an exceedingly romantic outdoorsy couple. For a winter wedding, the cozy warmth of the Seth Bird House’s formal dining rooms implore you and your guests to come in from the cold and sit down to a five-course dinner by firelight, lovingly prepared by Chef Eddy. As for summer and fall – well, there is nothing better suited to the party-minded couple than barn dances and libations in the Gordon Brown House and it’s adjacent open-air terrace.
However, the experiences at Winvian are not limited to the wedding day alone. Because each and every guest cottage on the property is so very different from the next, most of your guests will want to see where their fellow invitees are staying. We love the idea of a “cottage hop, cocktails & canapés” event as a welcome party for the weekend. Well, the folks at the leading color-categorizing firm Pantone have spent countless hours cataloging trends in fashion, art, film and travel to determine the hottest color for all aspects of your 2012 lifestyle {read: your wedding}. Another way to add a little tangerine dream is with a hint of fringe... perhaps not for your wedding, but for a funky bachelorette party look. This gorgeous piece is from one of my favorite designers, ROARKEnyc. Owner / designer Laeticia Stanfield injects a downtown meets glam NYC aesthetic into each of her pieces... I styled this particular piece over an Ivy & Aster dress {complete with a melangerie of neon painted animals, just for fun} and a neon Jennifer Behr headpiece, but off the editorial, it would look super haute with a draped pima tee, leather leggings and booties... perfect for dancing the night away! The beautiful makeup is by Facetime Beauty Concierge.Another fun and fresh way to add tangerine is to slowly incorporate it into your decor. I'm sure many of our blogger friends have created tangerine boards galore for you to peruse, but I loved the simple mix of the shade with fuchsia in this trim from the folks at Confetti System. Of course, even the boldest brides aren't really thinking of wearing tangerine while they walk down the aisle, but a fun little accessory swap can keep it festive for the reception or after party. Above, I added a mix of color bobby pins to a simple 'do. Below, I added a stunning tangerine necklace from Elva Fields to the bride's playful Ulla-Maija gown from Gabriella New York Bridal Salon. Both would be fun and festive ways to update your wedding dress from ceremony to par-tay.

Okay, want to get crazy on your wedding day? Not many brides would take the leap, but a playful way to get more for your wedding-dress-buck is to SKIP the trash the dress session {I still cringe at that trend} and instead err for a post-wedding photoshoot restyling your gown in a totally off-kilter and crazy way. Here, you see me styling our bride with tangerine, yellow, green and pink accents. It's pretty nutty, but very fun. I kinda want to see her on a swing set with her groom in a day-after-the-wedding photoshoot... The layered tees were simple finds from Urban Outfitters, the "belt" is yardage from M&J Trim, and the nylon friendship bracelets were also from ROARKEnyc...
Here's a fun little shot of what the Merci New York team dragged into this shoot from our countless {and bottomless} Mary Poppins bags of tricks. While it looks like a playhouse, it also show how we exercised restraint {except for that last look, of course}. With bright colors like Tangerine Tango, less is almost always more for a wearable look. Real NYC Wedding | Katie + Adam at the Angel Orensanz Foundation

Today we are thrilled to share Katie and Adam's absolutely breathtaking New York wedding, planned by Tzo Ai of ANG Weddings and Events. From the striking getting ready portraits at the Thompson LES hotel, to their stunning ceremony and reception at the Angel Orensanz Foundation for the Arts, Katie and Adam's wedding is packed to the brim with stylish, NYC-centric details that will inspire any Manhattan bride-to-be. Take a peek...
The bridal party got ready at the Thompson LES hotel, just a few blocks away from the wedding venue. They had a penthouse suite, which also served nicely as their after party venue after the wedding. The floor to ceiling windows and balcony offered sweeping views of downtown New York.
The wedding ceremony and reception took place at the Angel Orensanz Foundation for the Arts. The Foundation is housed in one of the oldest surviving gothic-revival synagogues in New York, and has proudly kept its architectural integrity. When it opened in 1849, it was the largest synagogue in the United States.
Tzo Ai shared that the chuppah was decorated using sheer white draped fabric with orchid blossoms and hanging votives. A family heirloom, a talis, was incorporated into the roof of the chuppah. The hanging chandeliers were draped with a mix of ivy and passionflower vine.Adam had proposed to Katie at a John Mayer concert a year prior. When John Mayer saw this was happening, he made up a song on the spot and serenaded the newly engaged couple from the stage. This was caught on video, which went viral after being uploaded to YouTube. We played the video on four plasma screens just before the introduction of the Bride and Groom to a huge round of applause and laughter from the guests. Later during the reception, the Adam surprised the Katie by jumping on stage, picking up his electric guitar and singing Wonderwall to her. Together with the touching speeches from family and friends, it was an incredibly meaningful evening, so full of love.
Bernard Brim and the New York Players from Starlight Orchestras kept the dance floor packed the entire night.Nine Cakes created a beautiful dessert table of five different flavored cakes on stands of varying heights and a selection of mini desserts. The cakes were decorated with jewels in purples and blues with accents of silver. It was a feast for the eyes and just as tasty.

Make Meaning | New Upper East Side Outpost Offers Stylish Crafts for Kids of All Ages

Martha Stewart Weddings' Editorial Director, Darcy Miller, and style guru Robert Verdi design a super cute cake inspired by a Damien Hirst design. The original was found in the pages of MSW.
Make Meaning's new UES outpost is a colorful craft refuge for all kids, big and small. Here you can paint ceramics, design your own jewelry, and even build a pick-your-scent candle. {We were drawn to the "freshly washed man" scent ourselves!} Pair all the fun activities with grown-up only incentives like 50 percent off wine Wednesdays or "adults make it after dark classes", and voila! You've got yourself an instant date night or bachelorette party festivity.
Dylan Lauren joins Darcy at the make-a-cake activation {above}, while the back of house was prepped for little ones looking to do the same, {below}.

Bridal Market Bits | Behind the Scenes at Kenneth Pool Fall 2012

As you probably noticed while reading our Bridal Market Bits series this season, we decided not to bombard brides with all the Fall 2012 shows at once, but rather piece meal all the gorgeous goodness week by week, until gowns were ready to be sold in salons.

As a stylist, I sometimes appreciate the backstage photos as much as the runway show itself. Bridal Market Bits | Monique Lhuillier Fall 2012 Collection

If you've ever perused my runway recaps on the Merci New York blog, you're probably very familiar with my love for Monique Lhuillier. Aside from wearing Monique Lhuillier on my own wedding day, I always look forward to her shows, be it for bridal market or fashion week. Suffice it it say, I have a major design crush on everything she creates...
For Fall 2012, Monique Lhuillier entitled her show "Floral Fantasy." {I've included her inspiration beneath the photos}. Beyond the wonderfully ethereal look of the line, I loved how Lhuillier's line was wearable. Like any other stylist, I love an inventive runway, but I adore when a designer creates specifically for her clients. The Monique Lhuillier bride will wear her gowns exactly as they are shown here - There are no "runway-only" embellishments that are overtly editorial. The focus remains on the wonderfully romantic gowns and the sure-to-be-glowing bride. And really, isn't that what bridal style is truly all about?
Here are Monique Lhuillier's inspirations, direct from the run-of-show:
"Ethereal, dreamy, frothy, romantic. All of these words came to my mind when I was dreaming up this collection. The featherweight quality is woven through the collection. Flowing chiffons, yards and yards of tulle, lightweight laces all layered to create a delicate luxurious feeling. Beading is subtly sprinkled on our laces to add some shimmer... Real NYC Engagement Session | Megan + Michael's Mad Men Shoot

Oooh I'm such a sucker for sixties style. The polish. The panache. The subtle yet coy sexiness of it all... The entire decade was so inspiring, I just love to see couples that adore it as much as I do. All this said, you can imagine how I jumped for joy when Ryan Brenzier shared Megan and Michael's Mad Men-inspired shoot with Merci New York. I couldn't wait to let it live on the blog. Not only are the photos absolutely exquisite, but Megan knocked the wardrobe and props out of the park! {Read: that's an actual Joan Holloway dress from the show, ladies!} Be sure to scroll down for more of Megan's amazing inspiration - and enjoy!
From the bride-to-be, Megan Duffy: My fiance, Michael, and I have known from the get-go that we want to have a 1960s inspired wedding, but we don't want it to be too kitschy or feel like a costume party. The engagement shoot was the perfect opportunity for us to get a little more playful. Mad Men is our favorite show and since we love the 60s and we live in NYC, it was a perfect theme for our shoot.
I took a lot of time to make sure that all of our props and outfits were accurate and appropriate. For example, at the beginning of the shoot my fiance and I are both holding vintage magazines that were printed within 4 days of each other. To me, the little details were what made a difference. People who watch the show might recognize that I'm wearing jewel toned outfits and that I placed a brooch on my coat, just like Joan Holloway {or they might even recognize the green dress from the show!} or that Michael is wearing sharkskin suit and a pocket square in the same way that Don Draper does... I studied the clothing that Joan and Don wear in the show and tried my best to emulate them.
The NYC Transit Museum and the Gramercy Park Hotel were perfect locations for our shoot because they really enabled us to step back in time and pose as a couple in the 1960s. Truth be told, though, anyone who works with Ryan Brenzier has an unfair advantage because he has the ability to make anyone and anything look amazing. We are so thrilled to be working with him and cannot wait to see him again at our wedding next September.

Sixteen semi-finalists will be chosen by a panel of wedding and style experts from ColinCowieWeddings.com, the Empire State Building, Estée Lauder, Kleinfeld, home of TLC’s “Say Yes To The Dress,” and Christian Oth Studio based on their originality, style and connection to the world’s most famous building. The semi-finalists will be announced on December 16, and then the public will vote on the final four winners, which will be announced on January 6, 2012.
As Cowie transforms the 61st floor of the Empire State Building into four luxurious ceremonies and receptions, the details like the brides’ dresses, flowers and cakes will be decided by public voting on Facebook. Bridal Market Bits | Reem Acra Fall 2012 Collection

As you may have noticed, I've been spreading out our beautiful runway coverage from the Fall 2012 shows, giving readers a few wedding fashion bits each week. While meeting a styling client last week {who is wearing a gorgeous Fall 2012 Reem Acra gown for her city wedding, btw}, I noticed we hadn't published our photographers' coverage of the new Reem Acra collection on the Merci New York blog {oh the horror}! Suffice it to say, we've inadvertently left some of the very best for last...A highlight of bridal market, Reem Acra's collection was cohesively drawn together by transparencies - gorgeous layers of trend-right lace and tulle that lent a certain chicness to the line. In her notes, Reem made wonderful fashion-forward statements about the gowns, i.e. "laser cut is the new lace," statements that kept bridal feeling fresh and reascertained my belief that Reem remains the perfect fit for the style-loving bride... In addition to the absolutely gorgeous gowns, which I've already sung my praises for above, I was also totally transfixed by the gorgeous styling down the runway - In fact, I found myself snapping detailed iPhone photos of the headdresses as much as the gowns {all which came out terribly, so luckily our Merci New York photographers' photos rescued me quite nicely}.

Kate & Charley have been together since they were students at Carleton College, and they are one of those couples that seem totally relaxed together -- you can just tell that they have each other’s back no matter what, it’s such a good fit. My thoughts were confirmed by the toasts we heard at their wedding at Housing Works Bookstore. They wanted to have a mid size yet intimate wedding with friends and family, many of whom came from the Midwest for the occasion, so they arranged a double-decker sightseeing bus to shuttle guests for a quick tour on the way from Blessed Sacrament, on the Upper West Side, down to the reception in Soho.
Michael Day's florals were perfect dressing for the long dinner tables. Event planning was handled beautifully by Amanda O’Callaghan of The Works Catering. During cocktail hour we were treated to the wonderful and romantic musical stylings of Lapis Luna… After dinner a more danceable playlist helped folks migrate to the dance floor! I was able to steal Kate and Charley for a quick night portrait towards the end of the evening… if I hadn’t needed to take my equipment back to studio I would have been tempted to join this crowd at their well-publicized after party.

Super cool couple: check! Great West Village location: check! Magnolia cupcakes: double check! And a sweet personal note from the Australian bride to be asking to share her super cute photos with Merci New York's readers? Amazing!
Theresa and Luke are an uber-fab Australian couple who were en route to get married in Vegas. With a quick stopover in NYC, they enlisted in the help of Sam & Gertie Photography to give them the great photos they craved. Needless to say, they certainly delivered. Take a peek and be prepared for a whole lot of cuteness.

Theresa and Luke live in Perth, Australia. They decided to take a month long trip to the USA to get married! The wedding was in Vegas, but they made a stop in New York so we could take some fun engagement shots. We basically spent the morning wandering around the West Village and a bit of Soho. Aren't they the sweetest couple?
Of course we had to make a stop at Magnolia Bakery, since it was so close. I'm not sure if I have ever eaten a red velvet cupcake for breakfast before, but I just might have to do it more often.
{As an aside}, LOVE Theresa's necklace. Oui! It's perfect for an engagement shoot. Congratulations you two! Hope you had a fantastic Vegas wedding!!

Monday has quickly become my favorite day of the week on Merci New York. Truly, is there a better way to slowly transition into the work week than with a dreamy destination feature?
While I love to chime in with some in-house destination wedding finds of my own, I a.d.o.r.e. saving the first Monday of every month for Christina Matteucci, the executive director of david beahm destinations.
If you have been following Christina's posts on Merci New York, you already know she has a fabulous flair for wonderful destination {and honeymoon!} finds {read: Christina has shared david beahm destinations approved enclaves in Tulum, Mexico, Mykonos, Greece, Napa Valley, California, Williamsburg, Virginia, and Lake Como, Italy}. I always wonder where she'll whisk us away to next... and this month, I'm thrilled she is bringing us to one of my favorite wintery locales, The Lake Placid Lodge. Take it away, Christina!
It’s that time of year again and I can’t get enough! Bundle me up in an oversized blanket and I’m one happy girl. Now, take a snuggly Christina, move me to a snowbound upstate New York, plop me in front of a roaring fireplace with a hot cocoa and there is a real chance I might take up residence. At least that’s what happened when David and I recently visited the Lake Placid Lodge. Poor David had one tough time wrangling me into the car for the drive back to civilization. I left kicking and screaming and I have to admit a big part of me departed Lake Placid dreaming, “ohhhh I’d love to have my wedding there one day!”
Here’s the thing about the Lake Placid Lodge: it truly feels like your luxurious second home, right down to Maggie, the Lodge’s resident Golden Retriever who greets you with an ebullient tail wag upon check in. Be it amidst the glories of summer or the depths of winter, the Lodge is the epitome of Adirondack charm from the moment you drive into the porte-cochere.
Tragically lost in a fire in 2005, the original main Lodge has been painstakingly rebuilt in the style of the numerous “Great Camps” that dot the lakes of the Adirondack region. Not a single detail was overlooked. Local artisans, from stonemasons to woodworkers, were commissioned to create one-of-a-kind hearths and furniture that implore you to unwind. But then again, the overstuffed beds and soaking tubs do a pretty good job of that too.
The Lodge boasts one of the largest private collections of Hudson River paintings and en masse, they speak to a bygone era that is echoed by a series of extraordinary private rooms that line the water’s edge. These refurbished hunting cabins built in the 1940’s exude a downright masculine aesthetic, yet one that is categorically enchanting and luxurious. Even the girliest girl (me) melted while watching the sun rise over the lake from my lofty boudoir as a family of rabbits frolicked in the snow outside my window.So, if it were me, how would I do a winter wedding on Lake Placid? Well that’s easy…

Keep the guest list small and intimate – this place is a treasure best enjoyed by fast friends and dear family. Welcome every guest to the property with a gift basket in their room of local goodies and don’t be afraid to go heavy on the maple products. Maple syrup, maple candy and maple cream just don’t get any better than in the Adirondacks. We recommend South Meadow Farm’s variety of great gift options!
Start off the weekend with a casual welcome/rehearsal dinner in Maggie’s Pub. If you are lucky, you may get the local barn owl Tess as a party crasher. She loves a good soiree and will even coo and preen when complimented! Once everyone has been warmed by spiced apple cider and Chef Rich’s hearty fare, proceed down to the open air campfire amidst the snow and good cheer.
On the big day, send the Groom and your more adventurous guests over to the half-mile, thrill-ride down THE actual 1980 Olympic bobsled run with a professional driver and brakeman. After that feat, saying “I do” will be a cake walk for any gent!
Those seeking a quieter morning can enjoy a peaceful yoga class to prepare for the party ahead. And what exactly does that celebration entail? Well that’s pretty clear too… David and I are huge fans of echoing the surroundings in your wedding style.
Adorn yourself in a simple white fur shrug (faux or otherwise) as the perfect complement to a magnificent winter gown. Carry a delicate bouquet of winter berries, elfin flowers and downy feathers to express a nod to your environment. Embellish your guest tables in a centerpiece that hearkens to a wintry forest floor, employing unique botanticals like moss, mushrooms, acorns and bark to convey a refined rustic feel. Complete the day for each of your guests en suite with a gift designed to inspire romance. At the crackling fireplace in every room, leave a hand-written note of thanks with the makings for your guests’ own private s’more celebration. Bridal Market Bits | Badgley Mischka Spring 2012 Bridal Collection

Right before bridal market began this fall, I had the pure pleasure of privately previewing the amazing new Badgley Mischka Spring 2012 bridal collection with designers Mark Badgley and James Mischka themselves. The experience was surreal {in fact you can read about it here}, but an even more magical part of the process was viewing the final runway show with first hand knowledge of their inspiration - and previously getting to touch and feel the gorgeous garments that were sashaying down the runway. With a career in the fashion industry, I appreciated the concept-to-creation process immensely, but as a bridal stylist, it was a pretty remarkable experience. The proposal: "Chad took me skiing for the first time in Vermont. Needless to say I was a total disaster and not the best sport about it to boot. Lets just say there were a lot of tears and a tantrum or two. After full day of lessons, Chad asked me to go for a run with him down the mountain. I felt a little hesitant about the idea given I wasn't yet comfortable on my own, but I went along with it anyway. Much to my dismay I suffered my first spill before I even hit the snow as I was attempting to dismount the lift. I could fell the embarrassment rising inside of me and it was all downhill (excuse the pun) from there. To make a long story short, I could not stay on my feet subsequently. After several attempts, my frustration overcame me and I kicked my skis off and decided I wasn't moving. Chad sympathetically looks up at me and tries everything in his power to coax me to get up, but I was not budging. I wasn't going to him so Chad had to hop up the mountain on his snowboard to me. I was visibly upset and things, in retrospect, were definitely not going as Chad had planned. Very lovingly, however, he took me by the hand and asked me to take a walk up the mountain with him (I was so blinded by my frustration that I didn't notice that this was odd... who takes a walk on a ski slope?) and when we reached the top and I looked at Chad through my tears he was down on one knee. The next thing I knew we were engaged and more tears were flowing... this time they were the good kind."

Our favorite photo: "There is a photo where Chad and I holding hands in park and I am looking back at him. I love it not only because it is so beautiful in its simplicity but also because it was such a natural moment where you could just see in our faces how elated we both were to be married to each other."

Lauren and Nate met and got engaged at an ABBA concert at the Hollywood Bowl {with an assist from the band, no less} so naturally, they chose this emblematic place for their engagement session. Nate is a location scout for movies and television and Lauren is a television producer. They love retro style, so much so that they are having a 20's themed wedding on Catalina Island.

Maroma Monday: A Beachside Wedding Celebration | Merci Destinations + Honeymoons

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a deliciously long holiday weekend filled with family and friends...
Today we're warming you back into the workweek with our third and final post in the Maroma Monday series. As you may have read, every Monday of this month I've been sharing tidbits from my press trip down to Maroma, a luxe little spot located in the lush Mayan Riviera region of Mexico, where I had the pleasure of staying at the relaxing resort as a reporter/"wedding guest." {I know, it's a tough job, but someone's gotta do it}.
Before the beautiful wedding you will see today, we spent four days on the gorgeous property snorkeling, taking cooking classes and lounging on the cabana sprinkled beach. We even witnessed a special Mayan ceremony. By the time the wedding rolled around, the guests and I had enjoyed a perfect vacay, so it was hard to imagine there was anything more to come... But like all things Maroma, the traditional wedding ceremony and reception on the beach was the perfect mix of relaxed luxury and local charm, perfectly planned down to the smallest detail. As you probably noticed from last week's post, the Mayan ceremony the day before the wedding was merely a nod to the culture and tradition of the region. Katherine and Ryan exchanged rows the next day beneath a beautiful floral canopy on the beach. {BTW, I loved the lucite-enclosed orchids and ghost chairs, which were both practical and chic for a beach wedding}.
Following the heartwarming ceremony, guests were invited through the resort's candlelit paths for a poolside cocktail hour. While light bites and anejo were served to traditional Mexican music, the couple snuck away for portraits around the striking grounds. {To see these beautiful nooks and crannies, be sure to refer to our first Maroma Monda post}.
Finally, we moved back onto the beach for a beautiful dinner reception. The long banquet table looked absolutely stunning with lush, bright florals, natural linens and warmly glowing lanterns. To the left of the dining area was a chic lounge, an enclave of white furniture, hot pink pillows and luminescent orbs placed in the sand. I loved the refined yet relaxed vibe of the party, which was perfectly represented by the dinner bar, a vintage armoir placed into the sand, flanked with palms and illuminated with warm light. It gave off a luxe but relaxed feel, welcoming guests to imbibe in the decadent meal, but then let their hair down to the post-dinner dance party that lasted well into the evening.

Real NYC Engagement Session | Jes + Matt

I'm so excited to share Jes and Matt's beautiful Manhattan engagement session on Merci New York. Aside from the fact that I'm still totally giddy over the below photo, {the perfect precursor to a gorgeous shoot by W Studios New York}, the bigger bonus is that Jes is a total blogger godsend. She shared so many amazing details with us, from Matt's adorable proposal, to their awesome e-shoot inspiration, down to the darling details of their winery wedding day. To be quite honest, it's almost as if she's guest-blogging... So, with that in mind, take it away Jes!
The Bride Recaps the Engagement Shoot:
Matt and I wanted to veer away from the cliché NYC engagement shoot in Central Park, and it was our photographer Stephen’s suggestion to head over to the Meatpacking district. The Highline offers a unique mix of city bustle and serene surroundings, with lots of trees, plants, water views, and a Manhattan backdrop. We lucked out with a gorgeous, uncrowded day.
Stephen and his assistant Yuliya were extremely easy to work with, and the four of us truly had a fun time. We headed down to the iconic tree-lined cobblestone streets on the border of the Meatpacking District and West Village. We wanted the photos to capture the fun and loving nature of our relationship—walking down the cobblestone streets holding hands…. We never felt posed, as Stephen captured ‘who we are’ and the photos truly came across REAL.
As we were scoping out the next scene, we came across a brownstone residence with an amazing rustic barn-esque garage door. It was the perfect blend of Manhattanite meets country, which is what I would love my wedding to convey. I love the way that Stephen and Yuliya captured these photos— the texture of the brick and the doors and mon amour et moi. The colored front doors that we came across next were just too cool to pass up; and Stephen’s eye for lighting and surroundings is top notch. I think the photos came out perfectly: not too “eccentric” but still conveyed our quirky yet classic style. Romantic. Idyllic. Elegant. Real. Fun.
As the shoot was winding down, I had one other idea… since we are getting married on a vineyard, how about some shots with some wine! The four of us hopped into Chelsea Market and snapped a few photos in front of a wall of wine bottles—yes, it’s a tad ‘theme-y’—but I just had to do it! We are getting married on Bastille Day, after all!

About the Engagement, From Jes:
Matt and I met through mutual friends, who were also a couple at the time. One could say that we were ‘set up’ and we hit it off immediately. And not long after first meeting, we had already made plans for weekends ahead. Our first official date happened at Jacques Brasserie, a local Upper East Side French Restaurant near Matt's place. He will tell you that he knew I was “the one” almost immediately; I knew he was a keeper after I showed up for that first date, because he remembered that I love anything and everything French. That was February 4th, 2008.
I woke up on the morning of February 4th, 2010 with horrible food poisoning from the meal we had the night before, knowing I would have to cancel our planned dinner to celebrate our 2-year ‘dating’ Anniversary. Since Matt is a hopeless romantic, and he had made reservations to dine at Jacques, I…well… sucked it up. He had reserved the same corner booth where we had say 2 years ago to the day, nestled in the back of the restaurant. Just as Matt had planned, I looked at the wine list and coyly asked if we could order the bottle of Margaux that I’ve always wanted {it’s a bit pricey}. To my surprise, Matt ordered the bottle to which I quickly responded with a swift elbow to his side and a sharp: “What you are doing? I was joking! Save that for a special occasion!” In a moment that is still blurry to me, Matt stood up and went around the booth, knelt down on one knee and proposed: “I promise to give you the world, will you marry me?”

I {Stephen Grande Jr} founded W Studios New York after many years of shooting weddings for top photography studios. One of my favorite experiences is to photograph a couple’s engagement session. It gives me more time to get to know the couple and their personalities, as well as how they act in front of a camera. The best part about having your own studio is being able to sit down and share a cup of coffee with them after a shoot instead of running off to my next appointment. In this day and age with all the automated technology nothing beats good customer service and face-time!

Bridal Market Bits | Pnina Tornai 2012 Collection

Today's Bridal Market Bits come courtesy of Pnina Tornai, one of the most passionate and luxurious designers in bridal. Pnina's Spring 2012 collection was inspired by precious gems and jewels, especially the pearls her mother and grandmother often wore when she was a child. Below are a few of our favorite Pnina Tornai dresses, many which will be available at Kleinfeld Bridal tres-soon. I especially adored the feathered Swarovski jewel-accented gown... which are your favorites?

"My 2012 collection is influenced by my love for luxurious fabrics and gems which started generations ago from my mother and grandmother. I was originally named Perla after my grandmother, which was later translated to Pnina in Hebrew. I remember my mother and grandmother always being well dressed and adorned by precious pearls ... The more strands, the better! After the passing of my mother in December of 2010, a friend compared tears to pearls. I held that thought with me, and for this collection, turned pearls into tears of joy for all the happy moments on a bride’s wedding day.
Pearls are a perfect accessory for the luxurious and decadent bride, but are also classic for a simple and chic bride. This collection, features, luxurious silk fabrics such as taffeta, double faced organza, satin, and vintage lace, highly embellished by precious pearls and Swarovski jewels. Maroma Monday: A Mayan Wedding Ceremony | Merci Destinations + Honeymoons

Welcome back to Maroma Monday... a mini-series of posts from our newly minted destination wedding and honeymoon stories, which take place {you guessed it!} every Monday on Merci New York.
Last Monday, I had the pleasure of sharing an overview of the gorgeous Maroma, a beautiful boutique resort nestled in the Mayan Riviera region of Mexico. During my press trip to the property, I indulged in a "wedding weekend" that included an intimate welcome dinner, a beautiful rehearsal and traditional Mayan wedding ceremony, and the main event: a beach-chic reception that was truly to die for.
Today, for part two of Maroma Monday, we're sharing the details of the traditional Mayan wedding ceremony. Our couple chose to incorporate the Mayan ceremony the evening before the wedding... They wanted to give guests a taste of traditional Mayan culture, and with all the colorful details, interesting rituals and a backdrop like the Maroma beach, who would object??
The Mayan ceremony was a festive way to inject a little culture into our couple's weekend of wedding celebrations. As you can see from the photos, the traditions are definitely an experience of the senses, from the drums, bells and horns that kickstarted the event, to the aromatic incense and colorful attire, and of course, all the tactile details. Never missing a chance to make an event as beach-chic as possible, the Maroma staff rounded out the evening with decadent lite bites and an assortment of local tequilas, which quickly turned this sunset fete into an all-night fiesta.

Real New York Wedding | Whitney + Man at Eagle Vale Golf Course

Happy Friday, friends. Here's hoping you're up to something fabulous this weekend. I, for one, am honored to end the week with my favorite kind of wedding: something super stylish, oodles of fun and packed to the brim with great details, lots of emotion and of course, amazing photography.
I fell in love the moment Ohana Photographers sent us Whitney and Man's wedding in upstate New York {admittedly my father's daughter, they had me at the vintage car}. But every photo got more and more fabulous - and wonderfully fun... Just the way a wedding should be! Not only will you be wonderfully inspired, I kinda have the feeling you'll want to be this couple's friend, too. Take a peek....

We traveled across the country, from San Diego to Rochester New York, to shoot this wedding and it was amazing! We met Whitney and Man face to face for the first time the day before their wedding at their rehearsal dinner and by the time dessert was served we were friends for life. They are honestly two of the happiest people we have ever met. They are self admitted kids at heart so when it came time to plan their wedding they knew right away that they wanted it to be super fun and have a carnival feel to it. I think they nailed it. The ceremony was held at the absolutely beautiful St. Michael's of Rochester and the reception was at Eagle Vale Golf Course. During the reception they had a candy station, giant lollipop centerpieces, a cotton candy machine, a photo booth, and they even had Coldstone show up to do custom ice cream creations for every guest. Nobody was bored at this wedding.

What We Love | Preston and Olivia Fall 2011 Collection

Good morning, lovelies! It's a true autumn day in NYC; with the kind of weather that makes you want to layer up all your fall favorites and tackle your daily to-do... I'm personally picturing it as a tall cognac colored riding boots, dark tailored jeans, jewel-toned blouse and furry vest kind of Thursday. The perfect finishing touch {had I known about it sooner} would be a darling seventies-inspired Preston and Olivia hat.
I've loved Preston and Olivia ever since I met owner-designer Dara Kent-Cobb last year. Her bridal line had a vintage sensibility I a.d.o.r.e.d. After helping style their Spring campaign, Dara partnered with Merci on our softly-launched Style Shop - a component of NewlyWish we're psyched to reveal in a big way very soon. But now, with her beautiful fall hat collection, the Preston and Olivia line is available to everyone - not just brides.
Below, Dara chats with Merci New York about her inspiration for the Fall collection - how it suits the city girl - and the ideal way to wear her gorgeous accessories. Enjoy!
Where do you see the New York City girl wearing these Fall 2011 pieces?
I think that the pieces are very versatile and I could see any New York girl wearing them around town running errands, shopping with her friends, brunching in the village, or a dinner date with her partner. They're so fun and can make a simple outfit really pop. All you need is a good pair of jeans, some boots, a tee, and a basic blazer and you're set.

If you could pick a clothing designer whose style coordinates best with your line, who would it be?
Based on what was on the runways this fall, I would say Gucci, Chloe, and The Row, Celine, and Ralph Lauren all had amazing collections full of color and texture that totally inspired this collection. I would love to see my pieces paired back with any pieced from any of those collections.

In these words, the fall collection is....
Tailored, Relaxed, and Sophisticated. It's uptown meets downtown. It's classic design with a modern interpretation.

The perfect Preston and Olivia celebrity spokesmodel would be ________.
I think Blake Lively because she has such a fresh and carefree sense of style that is the perfect balance of boho meets sophisticated dressing. I truly see her as someone who would get up on the morning and throw on the perfect basic pieces and one of my hats and look so perfectly put together you would love her and want to be her best friend and wear exactly the same outfit.

White Wonderland Weddings with Ovando, Resident Floral Expert

I’m so happy to be back on Merci New York, just in the midst of all the exceptionally glam Bridal Market coverage. Even while there is so much fall-colored eye candy to behold, bridal market bits are a fabulously fashionable reminder that winter and hence spring are just around the corner. And this, inevitably, got us thinking about our favorite looks for winter weddings, indeed one of our very favorite subjects at Ovando!
As many of you perhaps know, Ovando is most well-known for the use of very bold colors and modern designs. Nevertheless, one of our favorite looks for winter—and one that continues to command tons of attention for Winter 2011—is a truly magical, yet ever-modern, white wonderland look. Now you might be asking yourselves, “Isn’t this a more traditional décor style?” Well, one might initially think that…but we assure that there are plenty of ways to incorporate more modern flair!
One of our favorite techniques is to base your design upon white flowers but also incorporate subtle, earthy colors like greens and wheats, in order to make your arrangements stand out. We like to work lily grass or steal grass into architectural forms in order to create more contemporary compositions.
Otherwise, a slightly simpler technique is to work with designs which accentuate the green stems of your chosen flowers. White calla lily compositions are ideal as the flower has thick, bright green stems that are fairly pliable and hence good to design with.
Tablescapes that embrace mixed designs, all using white flowers, are another great way to achieve a more modern look. This technique brings beautiful energy to your design and also allows for interplay between various textures.
Take, for instance, the languid and silken look of callas, versus the tender and ever-elegant look of phalaenopsis orchids, as also compared to those ruffled, wonderfully lush delphiniums, as, alas, measured against the heart-shaped and tropical appeal of anthuriums. Tablescapes truly permit an endless amount of possibility—and this doesn’t even factor in the interplay of varying proportions amongst each composition!
Lastly, we hardly need say how crucial it is to have lighting which really brings your designs to life. Mixing candles into a beautiful floral spread is not exactly a novel idea. Nevertheless, it remains a very popular way to create a warm glow.
Overhead spotlighting should also be mixed in. Not only does this bring in gentle brightness, but you can manipulate positioning between your tealights, spotlights, and tablescape designs so that the resulting shadows create a sense of flow and movement.
And also keep in mind: just because your chosen flowers are white does not mean that all of your lighting needs to be. One of our favorite ways to imbue a room with more modern finesse is to use colored, yet subtle, front- or back-lighting. The interplay between your white table décor and colored lighting gives way to a contemporary aesthetic while still showing reverence to the white “winter wonderland” feel.

Magical indeed!
